THE DIRT COMPANY - REFILLABLE PACKAGING

The starter pack is $21.95 including a dispenser and 425ml of laundry liquid. Dirt state that their detergent is 8 x more concentrated than mainstream brand, requiring less product per load.

They provide a refill pack system in which you collect your refill packs, the mail them back. They then sanitise them and fill them up again. Reused packs are only sent to customers part of the refill return system. The Dirt Company also generously donate 50% of profits to The Ocean Cleanup, an organisation working on developing technology to pull plastics out of the ocean.

MY FUTURE GO TO: ZERO CO

Launched on kickstarter in 2019, Zero Co contains a range of products in beautiful bright dispensers made from plastic pulled from the sea. The refill sachets are made from recycled materials diverted from landfill. Laundry refill sachets are $36 for 4/L ($9/L), are plant based and made in here in Australia.

Launching approximately July 2020 this product and a broader range are available for pre-order. I purchased their entry level range on kickstarter, so once they arrive later this year I’ll let you know more!

Happi Earth

The Happi Earth pouch contains a whopping 400 washes worth, hence the larger pricertag of $99.98 for 1L.

Once used, you have the options to send it back to be sterilised and refilled. All ingredients are certified organic (very rare for laundry detergent) and Happi Earth also plant one tree for every purchase. The basis of this detergent is Soapberries which are plants that contain saponins. I’ve tried using just Soapberries in my laundry before but wasn’t happy with the result. I think they need to soak in fairly warm water and for a decent amount of time to extract the saponin. This is most likely why they didn’t work for me on my short and cooler cycles. Happi Earth takes this concern away as they have already extracted the soapy liquid for you.

Refillery

*** Refillery are currently out of Laundry liquid online but stay tuned for when it becomes available again.

I came across this relatively new company at my local markets. Refillery have a limited offering online but for those in Sydney you can find them at Bondi beach oor Erskineville markets.

Your refill bottle is filled and shipped to you in a reusable envelope with a reply-paid label. ONce the bottle is empty pop it back in the same envelope, add the return sticker and drop off to the post office. You pay for the reusable nalgene refill bottle just once then it gets used time and time again after that.
